In 1987, Christopher Havenga started his Braunvieh stud with six cows and a bull that he bought from Jan de Kock of Vrede and Chris Blumenthal of Luckhoff. He looked at many breeds before making up his mind, and found the Braunvieh to be the best dual-purpose breed, giving him enough milk and good meat.

Alphine Swiss Braunvieh stud was found by my grandmother in 1936. She imported cattle from Switzerland. Since then we still belief in the Original Braunvieh and use only genetics imported from Switzerland. We breed cattle with 50/50 milk and meat. We only sell performance tested bulls. Our commercial cattle are also pure breed Swiss cattle. We are the 7 th generation Wessels on the farm Wilgerboom in die Winburg district.
